Coursework
CET 692 - Inclusive STEM Instruction
DSU / Dr. Jennifer Nash
Spring 2019 / 2 credits Summary
Throughout this course, I learned how STEM is more than grouping together the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. STEM allows for collaboration among each of these areas in order to explore concepts through problem solving and critical thinking. STEM provides real world challenges in which students are able to become more aware of the problems affecting our community, health, environment, and economy.
CET 720 - Leading Evaluation and Change in the Instructional Technology Environment
DSU / Dr. Kevin Smith
Spring 2019 / 3 credits Summary
In this course, I learned about leadership, change and evaluation in the field of educational technology. I used to think leaders within ed tech were the designated technology teachers, but throughout this course I realized that content teachers can be great leaders for technology by impacting school attitude, culture and learning. Additionally, I learned how to appropriately evaluate technology tools for school and classroom use. A vision statement, technology plan, evaluation tools, and tech integration frameworks allow schools to build a sturdy foundation for future decisions to be made. This ensures the vision of technology integration best supports student learning.
CET 725 - Educational Applications for the Mobile Environment
DSU / Dr. Mark Geary
Spring 2019 / 3 credits Summary

As a part of this course, I wrote a position paper on the topic of traditional classroom instructional strategies being of similar benefit in distance education.
LT 731 - Multimedia Production
DSU / Dr. Kevin Smith
Summer 2019 / 3 credits Summary
This course changed the way I viewed and created multimedia for classroom use. We know that visuals support learning, so it is important that we intentionally design classroom materials. This does not mean a teacher needs to take several graphic design courses; instead, educators should know a few meaningful tips that change their visuals and therefore impact student learning. A few of these practices include creating visual slides instead always using bullet points, sticking to a font pair, choosing good color combinations, using purposeful images and icons, and utilizing white space. This course also allowed me to think creativity with several multimedia projects where I learned new skills using Google Slides, Canva, Gravit Designer and a GIF creator.
CET 756 - Introduction to Instructional Programming
DSU / Lori Goldade
Fall 2019 / 2 credits Summary
In this course I learned how computational thinking involves aspects of breaking apart problems, recognizing patterns, thinking abstractly and creatively, and determining steps for solutions. I also learned the basic of reading and writing code with Scratch and Code HS programming.
CET 795 - Practicum
DSU / Dr. Kevin Smith
Fall 2019 / 2 credits Summary
This practicum experience consisted of the development of the Chasing Einstein website and instructional materials. This semester long project provided application for instructional design skills through multimedia and website development.
